Residential Energy Audits
Why have an energy audit? A professional energy audit can identify areas where energy is wasted. For example we test how leaky the home is, and how leaky the duct work is. Using infrared technology we can then locate the areas to fix. We do thorough diagnostic check of the homes electrical and water systems to find those areas to start saving money. We then prepare a report, providing solutions and lay out a plan for future energy conservation. Contact us today!
What about home buyers? We offer our thermal imaging services. This is a great way to get the whole story on a home before you buy it. With a thermal scan we can locate some potential headaches before they develop. It can save money in the negotiation phase, and help to make an informed decision based on ALL the facts. And know that if you purchase a ENERGY STAR home it has passed a rigorous and thorough inspection and testing process. Ask your builder about ENERGY STAR.
We inspect the whole house looking for water intrusions (see photos below), and electrical systems. All inspections come with a full report detailing the area of concern. For homeowners we are able to find hidden problems like those in the photos below and we also use this equipment to perform home energy audits. We are able to find where insulation may be failing and where heat is lost and gained through the homes exterior. This is money literally slipping through the cracks of the house.
For home builders we are able to locate potential problems which can be easily repaired before expensive and more extensive repairs are required, and before a home buyer moves in. SEE OUR ENERGY STAR PAGE.
If you currently own a home you are well aware of the rising energy costs, and the initiative to save energy.
How and where do you start? A home energy audit will identify problem areas, where you are wasting energy. During our audit we perform tests on the home. First, we do a blower door test this locates where your home is "leaking", this could be around doors, windows, attic accesses. Also we perform a duct blaster test, this determines where your duct is leaking conditioned air to places you don't want it to, and pulling it in from attics or crawlspaces. Most homes have anywhere between 20% - 50% leakage, making your HVAC equipment inefficient and run longer and longer. We also use our infrared camera to locate those areas that are leaking, and to look for other areas of concern like electrical breakers, switches, and outlets. When we are done, we outline a path to save that wasted energy (which is money) and put it back in your pocket.
